🎃Pick The Lights

Getting started

Pick The Lights lets the audience of a MadMapper show request or vote on what plays next from a web page on their phone. It has three parts:

  • The control panel (this site): your sequences, settings, viewer page, analytics.
  • Your viewer page at yourshow.pickthelights.com: what the audience sees.
  • The agent: a small program on the computer running MadMapper. It syncs your timelines up and plays requests.

1. Create your show

Sign up with a show name. Your subdomain is created from it. Verify your email.

2. Set up MadMapper

Put each requestable piece on its own timeline in a timeline bank (one column per song works well). Make sure OSC input and OSC Query are enabled in MadMapper → Preferences → OSC/MIDI (they are by default: OSC on UDP 8010, OSC Query on 8011).

3. Run the agent

Install and start the agent on the same computer (or any computer on the same network). See the agent guide. Within seconds your timelines show up under Sequences.

4. Tidy your sequences

Give them display names and artists, hide utility timelines (Show_Start, Show_Off…), group medleys, add categories. Drag to set the order viewers see.

5. Pick a viewer page

Start from a template under Viewer Page → Browse templates, make it yours, and set it live. Print the QR code for your yard sign.

6. Turn on viewer control

On the dashboard flip Viewer control on and choose Jukebox (queue) or Voting under Settings. Requests start when the current timeline ends.

Running a show night

  • The dashboard shows viewers right now, the queue or votes, what's playing, and a readiness checklist.
  • Use Play now / Play next on any sequence to override the queue, or fire a PSA.
  • Safeguards: GPS or code check-in so only people at the show can request; hide a sequence after it plays; nightly play limits; block IPs.
